After your briefing you will be equipped with your mountain gear ready for your short exploration of Skaftafell glacier. Skaftafell is an outlet glacier that extends from the largest glacier in Europe, the Vatnajökull glacier. Your mountain guide will show you how to use basic glacier hiking equipment, such as the ice axe and crampons. You will explore Skaftafell Glacier on a walk that will have you feeling you have landed on another planet. On the Skaftafell glacier walk you will navigate the wonderful icy landscape and you will get to see sights such as deep crevasses, glacial ice sculptures and ice ridges.
Glacier walking at Skaftafell is available all year round and the experience as a whole will take approximately 3 hours, though you will spend about two hours on the ice. This Skaftafell glacier walk has been created so it is suitable for novices and families, the minimum age to take part in this Skaftafell Glacier walking experience is eight years old. This glacier walking experience in Iceland will be conducted in English.
