Upon boarding the Grand Hibernian sleeper train you will instantly sense the elegance and luxury pour from every furnishing and panel. The Legends and Loughs tour, is a four-night journey, whereby you will discover delightful destinations of the Emerald Isle. Onboard the Grand Hibernian, the chefs use only the finest ingredients and combine them to conjure up delicious meals. Included in this luxury train journey across Ireland is a 4 night stay aboard the Grand Hibernian with 24 hour steward service. All meals aboard the Hibernian are included, they consist of a full Irish breakfast of a morning, a two course lunch and a four course dinner with cheeseboard, coffee and petit fours. Northbound Grand Tour of Ireland

The grand tour of Ireland luxury train break is the ultimate of our luxury train journeys in Ireland and is the pinnacle of travelling by train. You will experience luxury at its best, with Georgian styled carriages, world-class cuisine, outstanding scenery and excursions to delightful, charming destinations. 

During your Northbound Grand Tour of Ireland, you will spend 6 nights on board the Grand Hibernian luxury train in an eight-day journey touring Ireland. The journey will begin by setting off from Dublin, heading north to Belfast before travelling back south to experience charming destinations including Waterford, Cork, Killarney, Galway, Westport and Dublin. 

Day 1: This luxury train journey in Ireland will begin with a delightful two course lunch, as the train heads north to Belfast. Upon your arrival in Belfast, you will disembark the train and take a black taxi tour of the city. The taxi tour of Belfast will enlighten you on the volatile history of the city and will also take you to some of the city’s main attractions. On completion of the Belfast taxi tour, you will head over to the Titanic Experience, an award-winning attraction, that'll take you on a journey back in time to the construction of the world's most famous ocean liner. After the Titanic Experience, you will head back to the Grand Hibernian to take dinner and enjoy the wonderful Irish entertainment.

Day 2: On the second day of your luxury train break in Ireland, the Grand Hibernian will head south to Waterford, Ireland's oldest city and historic seaport, which was founded way back in 914 A.D by the Vikings. You will enjoy afternoon tea at Curraghmore House. You will have plenty of time to discover Curraghmore House, its wonderful gardens and outstanding stables. Upon visiting Curraghmore House, you will take a short trip over to Bishop's Palace, here you will be privileged to a private after hours tour, hosted by the director of the palace. You will have to opportunity to see the home of Waterford Crystal and learn of the history of glass making, you will be able to observe a vast collection of 17th Century Irish silver before returning back to the train to enjoy a fine dinner along with evening entertainment from Irish musicians.

Day 3: Your day will start with breakfast, as the Grand Hibernian luxury train heads north back to Dublin. Upon arrival in Dublin, you will disembark and be transferred to the Westbury Hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 4: You will be collected from the Westbury Hotel for your transfer back to the Grand Hibernian, where you will be served a delicious Irish high tea. Your journey will head back southbound to Cork, this part of the journey is wonderful, you will get to see the beautiful Irish countryside as the train travels the lush lands of southern Ireland. If whiskey if your tipple of choice, the next stop on this luxury train tour of Ireland will be a highlight as you disembark the Grand Hibernian and join a resident expert at the Jameson Experience. You will enjoy an early evening whiskey tasting session and a tour of the Jameson distillery. In the evening you will head back to the train to enjoy a world-calls dinner and Irish entertainment.

Day 5: The fifth day on this luxury Irish train journey you will visit Blarney Castle after indulging in your delicious Irish breakfast. Blarney Castle is home to the famous Blarney Stone. You will receive a private tour of the castle and the castle grounds and enjoy a morning coffee. You will re-join the train for your lunch as it will head westbound towards Killarney. On your arrival at Killarney, there are plenty of activities on the itinerary, including a traditional Irish jaunting car through Killarney National Park to visit Ross Castle. A boat trip is next on the agenda as you sail the islands of the lake around Ross Castle, before heading back to the Grand Hibernian for dinner and Céilí dancing for your evening entertainment.

Day 6: As the Grand Hibernian travels north, you will be able to enjoy your breakfast, whilst watching the lush Irish countryside sail past. Your morning can be spent at your leisure abroad the Grand Hibernian as you head towards Galway. You will arrive in Galway before lunch and take a tour of the majestic Cliffs of Moher. At lunch you will head over to a local Galway restaurant after which you will experience traditional Irish music in a traditional Irish pub. You will have the opportunity to learn how to play the Bodhrán, take to the floor boards and try some Irish dancing as well as pull your own pint of the black stuff. You will then have some free time to enjoy the city of Galway at your leisure. Feel free to stay at the pub or head on a journey around the city. For dinner you will head back to the train.

Day 7: For the penultimate day of your luxury train journey of Ireland, the Grand Hibernian travels up to County Mayo to stop at Westport. On the way to Westport you will be served your Irish breakfast and be able to take in the gorgeous scenery. On arrival in Westport you will take a drive through the wonderful County Mayo and head towards Ashford Castle, positioned within the Connemara National Park. You will take lunch and then experience the art of falconry and after, take a tour around the arounds of Ashford Castle. Next on the itinerary for day 7 is to experience sheepdog trials, which feature Connemara Black Sheep. After the sheepdog trials you will head over to Killary Harbour, here you will visit the Sheep and Wool Centre. There will be plenty of time to take in the magical sights before heading back to the Grand Hibernian for dinner and evening entertainment.

Day 8: The final day of your Irish luxury train journey will be spent heading towards Dublin as you enjoy your final breakfast aboard.
 

Southbound Grand Tour of Ireland

The Grand Tour of Ireland Southbound visits locations as the Northbound Grand Tour of Ireland. The stops along the Southbound tour are ordered slightly differently, heading south first from Dublin to Cork then onwards to Killarney's Blarney Castle, Galway, Westport, Dublin, Waterford and back to Dublin.

The Southbound Grand Tour luxury train break in Ireland's itinerary is as follows...

Day 1: Board at Dublin and head to Cork, similar to Day 4 on Northbound journey.

Day 2: From Cork you will head to Killarney, similar to Day 5 on the Northbound itinerary.

Day 3: You will spend the day in the wonderful city of Galway, similar itinerary as to Day 6 on the Northbound schedule.

Day 4: Your 4th Day will be spent in Westport, similar to Day 7 on the Northbound schedule

Day 5: You will spend the day in Northern Ireland's capital, Belfast. Check the schedule for Day 1 on the Northbound tour.

Day 6: The sixth day on the Grand Hibernian will be spent in Waterford. See the itinerary for Day 2 of the Northbound schedule.

Day 7: Your final day on the Southbound Grand Tour of Ireland aboard the Grand Hibernian will be heading to Dublin, where you will have breakfast onboard before disembarking.

FAQs

HOW MUCH LUGGAGE CAN I TAKE ON THE GRAND HIBERNIAN? ; There is a limited amount of storage within the cabins of the Grand Hibernian, therefore there are recommended limits to amount of luggage you bring aboard. It’s suggested that each passenger brings one suitcase and a carry on bag. Under one of your cabin beds, there is space for luggage, the total dimensions are 665 x 850 x 288mm.

DO I NEED TO TAKE MY PASSPORTS FOR A LUXURY TRAIN JOURNEY IN IRELAND? ; Those who have travelled from overseas will have to bring a valid passport, please also check if you are visiting from overseas as to whether you will need a VISA to enter into The Republic of Ireland and the UK. 

DO I NEED TRAVEL INSURANCE? Yes, it's highly recommended that you arrange suitable travel insurance to cover cancellations or interruptions, medical, luggage and personal belongings. Please bring your travel insurance documents with you on your luxury train tour.

HOW WILL I KNOW THE ITINERARY FOR MY GRAND HIBERNIAN PACKAGE?  Itineraries for the following day will be left in your cabin during turndown. The itineraries will notify you of excursions details, local weather forecast and dining times. 

IS THE GRAND HIBERNIAN WHEELCHAIR FRIENDLY? The Grand Hibernian offers wheelchair accessible cabins for those who require one, corridors are wide enough for wheelchairs up to 655mm wide.

WHAT CURRENCY IS ACCEPTED?  All major credit cards are accepted on board the Grand Hibernian. Cash in Euros is also accepted.

CHECKING IN; The Grand Hibernian train departs from Dublin Heuston Station. Please check-in at least 40 minutes prior to your scheduled departure. You will be met by your host and crewmembers will escort you and your luggage onto the train.

WHAT IS OVERNIGHT STABLING? On an evening the Grand Hibernian is stabled at a mainline station or quiet siding, this is to ensure you enjoy a good night’s sleep.

IS SMOKING ALLOWED ON THE GRAND HIBERNIAN? There is a strict no smoking policy on board the train, there are several stops whereby smokers are permitted to smoke if they desire. 

ARE THERE LAUNDRY FACILITIES? Unfortunately, there are no onboard facilities, you will find a laundry bag in your wardrobe where you can store any washing.

WHAT IS DINING ON THE GRAND HIBERNIAN LIKE? Observation carriage Kildare, is the carriage to enjoy a morning coffee, nightcap or pre-dinner cocktail. There are two further carriages that offer your table dining experience, these are Wexford and Sligo carriages. Both wonderful settings to enjoy the d’hote cuisine dining. It’s recommended that during your luxury train journey of Ireland on board the Grand Hibernian that you dine at both restaurants, they offer a different ambience in each and it’s worth sampling both. 
There is an open seat, first come first served policy when it comes to dining on the Grand Hibernian. There are no options for making a reservations for a table for dining, there is always plenty of dining time and space for all to enjoy. 
Breakfast is an a la carte affair, menus can be found on the dining tables. Lunch and dinners are set menu. Service usually occurs at the following times. Though sometimes tours dictate that this may change;

♦ Lunch 13:00-14:00
♦ Dinner 19:30 – 21:00

WHAT IF I HAVE DIETARY REQUIREMENTS? Please advise us of any special dietary requirements as early as possible. In most cases, dietary requirements can be catered for. 

WHAT IS THE DRESS CODE FOR THE GRAND HIBERNIAN? The Grand Hibernian dress code is that during the day, you are advised to dress smart but informally. Grand Hibernian dress code during dining, a shirt and jacket for men and equivalent for ladies is the expected. 

ARE GRATUITIES INCLUDED? It is completely at your discretion as to whether you wish to give gratuities, but these are not included within your fare.

WHAT FACILITIES ARE ON BOARD? The library is located on the Wexford dining carriage, you will also find a selection of writing materials and games here too. 

If you require medication stored at a certain temperature, you can contact your steward who can arrange this for you. 

On board there are umbrellas and walking poles for your use whist out on excursions, these are located in the Lobby cupboards.

On board entertainment is on offer every evening, the entertainment changes from time to time but is always traditional and always brilliant. 

WHAT ARE THE SAFETY PROCEDURES? In your carriage you will find a information card detailing actions that will need to be followed in the case of emergencies.
Please do not ever lean out of your window, there is often very minimal clearance. Please do not walk on the track unless you are instructed to by the crew in the event of an emergency.

Fire alarms are tested when passengers are not on the train, therefore if you do hear the fire alarm, assume there is a fire and follow the appropriate safety actions.
